Lemon Acidity

Everyone loves a glass of lemon juice mixed with water and ice on a hot sunny day!

Lemons, in its natural state, is acidic with a pH of about 2, but once it is metabolized it actually becomes alkaline with a pH well above 7. It contains a high amount of vitamin C, soluble fiber, and plant compounds. So, once your lemon juice is fully digested, it has alkalizing effects with many health benefits!

Lemon juice:
  • promotes hydration,
  • is a good source of vitamin C,
  • supports weight loss,
  • improves skin quality,
  • aids digestion,
  • freshens breath,
  • helps prevent kidney stones,
  • support heart health,
  • protect against anemia,
  • reduce cancer risk!

So drinking lemon juice regularly is a great way to boost our immune system!  Drinking lemon juice with my other vegetable and fruit juices in their concentrated form, one can expect to get a boost of energy after drinking them on empty stomach and before you eat your food.

As for oral health, my dentist advised I rinse my mouth with plain water after drinking fresh lemon juice or sucking on a lemon.  Drinking from a straw is another option!  So although its nutrients are highly beneficial its acidic natural state can put you at risk for tooth erosion if you are not careful.
