Should We Soak Raw Nuts?

The phytic acid content of nuts isn’t actually anything to worry about…unless nuts make up a major portion of your calorie intake. And they shouldn’t. Nuts should supplement your diet.

Soaking nuts enables the phytic acid in nuts to break down and easily absorb in the intestine. The book “Alkalize or Die” by Theodore A. Baroody states, “Soaking nuts in distilled water overnight increases their pH level by 0.5. Soaking eliminates the anti-digestive enzyme normally found in nuts and is therefore the preferred way to prepare them for digestion.”

Soak your nuts and seeds in distilled water for the best results, nuts for at least 6-8 hours and seeds for 2-4 hours.

They are a great source of fiber, protein and essential fatty acids

Raw nuts are great for snacks at work and packing them in zip locked bags makes carrying easier and also easily accessible.

I also recommend mixing raw nuts with natural raisins, sultanas, goji berries and other dried fruits on your own. It is a cheaper way to buy and save, and you get to make your own nut & dried fruit mix! My guests usually complement my nut mixed and asked where I bought them from! πŸ˜•

I like to throw these raw nuts into my salads, either as whole or grounded.

Try making my all time favourite raw chocolate nut balls where you don't have to worry about putting on extra weight!

For you bread lovers, use them as 'raw butter' spread on your bread !

Below are some of my favourite homemade raw veggie dips blended with raw nuts. Pack them to the top in air-tight containers and they can last in your refrigerator for at least a week.  Great lunch and dinner options as entrΓ©e or as a meal by itself. They are densely packed with nutrients and very filling!

Also handy to have when you have unexpected guests! 😧😧😧😧😧
